These two qualifications are often confused but are quite different:
Foundation Degree
- A standalone Level 5 qualification
- Takes two years full-time to complete
- Combines academic study with work-based learning
- Can be topped up to an honours degree with one additional year
- Awarded by universities and colleges jointly
Foundation Year (Year 0)
- An introductory year added before a full bachelor's degree programme
- Designed to bring students up to degree entry level
- Once completed, students progress directly to Year 1 of their chosen degree
- The total qualification takes four years (1 foundation + 3 degree years)
- Entry requirements are typically lower than for a standard degree
Both routes are eligible for Student Finance England and are excellent options for students without traditional A level qualifications. AEC Consultant can help you decide which is the better fit for your goals.
