Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about studying BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year at AEC.

This four-year degree provides comprehensive training in software engineering, network architecture, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and database management. The Foundation Year provides structured entry for students without A-Levels or formal IT qualifications who want to build a high-value career in the technology sector.

No. The Foundation Year and the first year of the degree are designed to build technical skills progressively from beginner level. Logical thinking, curiosity about technology, and a commitment to learning are the most important qualities. Many students who go on to become strong software engineers and data scientists begin the programme with no prior coding experience at all.

The HND is a two-year Level 5 vocational qualification focused on practical technical skills and immediate employability. The BSc (Hons) is a four-year Level 6 degree that adds deeper theoretical grounding, research skills, and broader advanced curriculum areas including AI, data science, and systems architecture. BSc graduates command higher salaries and are eligible for more senior technical and leadership roles.

Graduates go on to roles including Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Cybersecurity Specialist, AI Developer, Cloud Architect, Systems Analyst, UX Developer, and IT Consultant. The UK tech sector has a major and ongoing skills shortage, meaning computing graduates are actively recruited across finance, healthcare, logistics, media, government, and every other major industry.

Yes. All four years are covered by Student Finance England. AEC Consultant handles your SFE application from start to finish at no cost, ensuring your tuition and maintenance funding is confirmed before your first day on the programme.

The UK government has identified digital skills as a national economic priority. The growth of AI, cloud infrastructure, and data-driven business means demand for computing graduates is growing faster than the current supply of qualified professionals. This creates an exceptionally strong job market for graduates of this degree.
