Why This Course?

Train to Lead, Manage, and Shape Organisations From the Inside

Management is not just about being in charge - it is about understanding how people, processes, and strategy come together to make an organisation succeed or fail. The BA (Hons) Global Business (Business Management) with Foundation Year is built around that core idea. It gives you the intellectual framework and practical skills to step into leadership roles, solve operational problems, manage teams effectively, and contribute to the strategic direction of any business you join.

This degree focuses specifically on the management of businesses at scale. You will study how large organisations are structured and run, how decisions are made under pressure, how supply chains are designed and optimised, how human capital is managed, and how corporate governance and ethical accountability shape the way businesses behave. These are not abstract ideas - they are the skills that organisations across every industry are actively looking for in their next generation of managers.

The programme begins with a Foundation Year, which is a genuine advantage rather than a detour. It gives you time to develop your academic skills, understand the business landscape, and build the confidence to tackle more complex material in Years 1, 2, and 3. Many students who begin through the Foundation Year route go on to be among the strongest performers in the degree precisely because they arrive at Year 1 thoroughly prepared.

AEC Consultant has supported over 5,000 students on their journey into UK higher education. Our service is 100% free - we are funded by our partner universities, never by the students we help. And with a 98.4% success rate, we know what it takes to get you from where you are now to where you want to be.

"This degree gives you the tools to walk into a boardroom, a warehouse, a hospital trust, or a government department and immediately start adding value. It is management education that reflects how businesses actually operate in a global, interconnected world."

What Makes This Degree Different?

  • Management-focused from the ground up - every module is designed to develop your ability to lead people, manage processes, and make sound decisions in complex environments.
  • Global perspective throughout - you will study international business, cross-cultural management, and how organisations operate across borders - not just in a single domestic market.
  • No UCAS required - our partner universities do not use UCAS, which means a faster, simpler, and far less stressful application process.
  • Three intakes per year - January, June, and September, so you can start when it suits you rather than waiting for the traditional autumn intake.
  • Fully SFE funded - the Tuition Fee Loan covers all four years of the degree, including the Foundation Year. A Maintenance Loan is available on top to help with living costs.
  • A separate degree from the Entrepreneurship route - if you are drawn to starting your own business or working in the startup world, take a look at our BA (Hons) Global Business and Entrepreneurship with Foundation Year. This degree, by contrast, is designed for people who want to lead and manage within established organisations.

Who Is This Course For?

This degree is a strong fit if you see yourself in any of the following situations:

  • You are working in a supervisory, team leader, or junior management role and want a recognised degree that validates your experience and opens the door to senior positions.
  • You want to work in HR, operations, supply chain, or corporate strategy - and you need a structured academic grounding to make it happen.
  • You are a mature student (21+) with years of real-world work experience who never had the opportunity to study at degree level but knows exactly where they want to go.
  • You are earlier in your career and want a rigorous, career-focused degree that combines management theory with practical business skills relevant to any industry.
  • You did not take A-levels or your qualifications do not meet the typical university entry threshold, and you need a Foundation Year route into a full Honours degree.
Curriculum

Your Four-Year Learning Journey

The programme is carefully structured to take you from academic fundamentals in the Foundation Year through core management disciplines in Years 1 and 2, and then into advanced strategy, leadership, and your own major research project in the Final Year. Here is what each stage looks like.

Foundation Year (Year 0) - Building Your Academic Platform

The Foundation Year sets you up for the full degree. It is not about catching up - it is about building a proper foundation. You will develop the academic writing and research skills you need to succeed at degree level, while also getting your first serious introduction to the business world, financial thinking, and how technology shapes modern organisations. Smaller group sizes and more frequent tutor contact make this year a genuinely supportive learning environment.

  • Academic Writing & Research Skills
  • Introduction to Business Environment
  • Business Communications
  • Fundamentals of Finance
  • IT for Business
  • Personal & Professional Development

Year 1 - Core Business and Management Foundations

In Year 1 you move into the full undergraduate programme. You will build a broad and solid understanding of how businesses are organised and how they are managed. By the end of this year you will have a confident grasp of the key disciplines - from marketing and economics to accounting and organisational theory - that underpin every management role you might go on to hold.

  • Principles of Management
  • Introduction to Marketing
  • Business Economics
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Financial Accounting for Business
  • Digital Business Skills

Year 2 - Applied Management and Global Strategy

Year 2 is where the programme gets genuinely challenging and genuinely exciting. You will move beyond foundational concepts and start working with more complex, real-world management problems. You will explore how large organisations are led strategically, how people are managed at scale, how supply chains function across international borders, and how businesses navigate legal and ethical responsibilities. This is the year where many students start to see exactly where they want to take their careers.

  • Strategic Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Operations & Supply Chain Management
  • International Business
  • Business Law & Ethics
  • Research Methods

Year 3 (Final Year) - Strategic Leadership and Your Major Project

The Final Year is your opportunity to demonstrate the full depth of what you have learned. You will undertake a substantial independent project - a Global Business Strategy dissertation or applied research project on a management topic of your choosing. Alongside this, your taught modules push into advanced territory: how leaders navigate change, how organisations govern themselves responsibly, how entrepreneurial thinking can be applied within large businesses, and how contemporary global issues are reshaping the way managers lead. This is a Final Year that prepares you for the real world, not just graduation day.

  • Global Business Strategy Project / Dissertation
  • Leadership & Change Management
  • Corporate Governance & Social Responsibility
  • Entrepreneurship in Organisations
  • Contemporary Issues in Global Business
Assessments are designed to be practical and applied. You will work on real business cases, produce management reports, and develop your own research as part of the degree - giving you a portfolio of work that means something to future employers before you even graduate.
Entry Requirements

More Ways In Than You Might Expect

The most common question we hear is: "Am I actually eligible?" And the most common answer is: yes, or closer than you think. The Foundation Year route exists specifically to widen access to a full Honours degree, and our partner universities take a genuinely holistic view of applicants. Here is what you need to know.

Standard Entry (Typically Under 21)

  • A Level 3 qualification equivalent to at least 60 credits or 80 UCAS tariff points. This can be A-Levels, a BTEC qualification, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or many international equivalents.
  • GCSE English Language at Grade 4 (formerly Grade C) or above. If you do not currently hold this, ask us about alternative assessment options available at our partner campuses - it is not automatically a barrier.
  • No UCAS application required. The process goes directly through AEC Consultant, which is faster and involves far less admin than the standard university application route.

Non-Standard Entry (Mature Students Aged 21+)

If you are 21 or over and do not hold the qualifications listed above, you are not automatically excluded - not by a long way. This programme has a well-established mature student pathway, and it assesses your real potential rather than exam results you may have sat years ago. You will be assessed via:

  • Personal Interview: A relaxed but purposeful conversation with an admissions tutor. They will want to understand your background, your motivations for studying, and what you hope to achieve through the degree. Work experience in any management, supervisory, or leadership context is highly relevant here.
  • Reflective Writing Task: A short written exercise completed on campus. It is designed to assess your ability to organise your thoughts and express ideas clearly in writing - not to test your knowledge of business theory. You do not need to prepare extensively for this.

Years spent managing a team, running a household, supervising staff in retail or hospitality, working in logistics or public services, or building any kind of professional track record all count meaningfully in a mature entry assessment. The university wants to see that you have the drive and the capacity to succeed, not that you sailed through school fifteen years ago.

English Language Requirements

For students whose first language is not English, an IELTS score of 5.5 overall (with no individual band below 5.5) is the typical requirement, or an equivalent recognised qualification. If you are close but not quite there, speak to us - we can advise on pre-sessional English support options and help you understand the fastest route to meeting the language requirement.

AEC Consultant provides a completely free eligibility assessment. We have a 98.4% success rate across over 5,000 students placed into UK university programmes. We will look at your full profile - qualifications, experience, goals, and language ability - and give you an honest, expert assessment of your options. No pressure, no fees, no vague answers.
Fees & Funding

Your Degree Does Not Have to Cost You Anything Upfront

The cost of studying is one of the biggest concerns we hear from prospective students. The good news is that if you are a UK home student, Student Finance England (SFE) can cover the entire cost of this degree - and you will not repay a single penny until you are earning above the repayment threshold. Here is a clear breakdown of how it all works.

Tuition Fee Loan

Covers 100% of your tuition fees for all four years of the programme, including the Foundation Year. The money goes directly from Student Finance England to the university - you never handle the payment yourself. There is nothing to pay before you start, and nothing to pay during your studies.

Maintenance Loan

A separate loan to help you cover your day-to-day living costs while you study - rent, food, travel, books, and everything else. The exact amount you can borrow depends on your household income and where you live while studying. For the 2025/26 academic year, students studying away from home and outside London can access up to approximately £13,000 per year.

When Do You Repay?

You do not start repaying anything until you have graduated and your annual earnings go above £25,000 per year. Below that threshold, you pay nothing at all - no matter how long it takes. Once you are earning above the threshold, repayments are calculated at 9% on your earnings above that level only. Any outstanding balance left after 40 years is written off entirely. This is not a commercial debt - it behaves more like a graduate contribution that scales with what you actually earn.

Who Qualifies for SFE?

To access Student Finance England funding for this course, you will generally need to:

  • Hold UK nationality or settled / pre-settled status in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme.
  • Be studying this programme for the first time (SFE does not typically fund a second undergraduate degree).
  • Meet the standard UK residency requirement - ordinarily three years of residence in the UK prior to the first day of your course.

If your situation is more complicated - for example, if you have studied part of a degree before, or if your residency history is not straightforward - do not assume you are ineligible. Speak to us first. We deal with SFE applications and eligibility queries every day, and we often find workable routes for students who initially assume they do not qualify.

AEC Consultant provides free, comprehensive guidance on your Student Finance England application from start to finish. We have helped over 5,000 students access funding and we will make sure you apply correctly, claim everything you are entitled to, and avoid the common mistakes that delay funding decisions.
Career Outcomes

Where Can a Degree in Business Management Take You?

The skills you develop on this degree - strategic thinking, leadership, operational problem-solving, people management, financial literacy, and an understanding of how organisations function in a global context - are among the most transferable and consistently in-demand skills in the entire job market. Every industry, every sector, and every type of organisation needs capable managers. Here are some of the strongest career destinations for graduates of this programme.

  • Business Manager / General Manager: Take overall responsibility for the performance of a department, a branch, or an entire business unit. General managers are the people who make sure everything runs together - budgets, teams, operations, and customer outcomes all sit within their remit. Graduates with a strong management degree and genuine commercial awareness are well positioned for these roles across retail, hospitality, logistics, financial services, and beyond.
  • Operations Manager: Keep the day-to-day engine of a business running efficiently. Operations managers design and oversee the processes, workflows, and systems that allow an organisation to deliver its products or services at scale. It is a role that combines analytical thinking, people management, and a genuine appetite for solving practical problems - all of which this degree develops directly.
  • HR Manager: Manage the most valuable resource any organisation has - its people. HR managers are responsible for recruitment, employee development, performance management, organisational culture, and ensuring that the business meets its legal obligations as an employer. The Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management modules in this degree give you a strong foundation for a career in this field.
  • Management Consultant: Advise businesses on how to improve performance, restructure operations, reduce costs, or enter new markets. Consultancy roles are highly competitive but exceptionally well rewarded - and they suit graduates who have developed strong analytical and communication skills alongside a broad understanding of how different business functions interact with each other.
  • Business Development Manager: Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities - new clients, new markets, new products, or new partnerships. Business development managers sit at the intersection of strategy and sales, and they need a confident understanding of the commercial landscape, which this degree provides in depth.
  • Supply Chain and Logistics Manager: Oversee the movement of goods, materials, and information through a supply chain - from sourcing and procurement through to production, warehousing, and delivery. With global supply chains becoming ever more complex and ever more strategically important, this is a role with strong graduate demand and genuine career progression.
  • Corporate Strategy Analyst: Work within the strategy function of a large organisation, analysing market data, evaluating competitive positioning, and helping senior leaders make informed decisions about where to invest, what to prioritise, and how to grow. A role that suits analytical minds who want to work at the highest level of business decision-making.
  • Public Sector Manager / Civil Service Fast Stream: Apply your management skills in the public sector - in local government, central government departments, the NHS, education, or the wide range of public and third-sector organisations that need strong managers just as much as private companies do. The Civil Service Fast Stream is one of the most respected graduate leadership programmes in the UK, and this degree builds the profile of exactly the kind of candidate they are looking for.

Further Study Options

A number of graduates from Business Management degrees go on to postgraduate study to deepen their expertise or pivot into a specialist area. If you are thinking about that route, AEC Consultant can support your postgraduate application with the same free, expert service we provide at undergraduate level. The most popular onward pathways for graduates of this programme include:

  • MSc Global Business - extend your strategic and international business knowledge to Level 7 and strengthen your profile for senior leadership roles.
  • MSc Project Management - develop a specialist qualification in project management, one of the most sought-after skill sets in both the private and public sectors.
  • MSc Global Sustainable Development - explore sustainability, corporate responsibility, and global development policy at postgraduate level.
